St. Stephen's has a reputation as a parish with an outstanding music program which has been a part of its liturgy. Central to this program are the St. Stephen's choirs.
Adult Choir
This choral group is open to boys with changing or changed voices, girls in eighth grade or older and adult men and women. Basic musical and singing ability are necessary. The choir enjoys a challenging and :fun ministry of music filled with the opportunity to lead worship and sing great choral music in religious and concert settings. The choir rehearses Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. beginning in late August. Choristers are required to report at 10: 00 AM. on Sunday morning. The choir also sings at special liturgies for Holy Days and for special concerts. Choir members also have an opportunity to participate in the annual RSCM King's College Summer Choir Training Course held at St. Stephen's at the end of each July.
Jubilate (yoo-bee-LAH-the) Choir
Boys and girls age four through second grade may join this choir, which provides an introduction to singing and leading worship through music for young children. In addition to learning the rudiments of music and singing, children are introduced to the basics of liturgy as they learn about the life and ministry of Jesus in our celebrations throughout the church year. Not only do they learn how to participate in worship; they learn how to lead worship. Rehearsals are held from 4:30 to 5:30 PM beginning in mid-September, and the choir participates at the 10:30 AM Eucharist.
St. Cecilia's Girls' Choir
Girls in third through seventh grades may join this choir. Training is grounded in the principles of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) in America with particular attention to learning and perfecting skills in music reading, listening, comprehension, and vocal technique. Special emphasis is given to the development of a basic understanding of the components and symbols of liturgy, the love of God and all of God's creation, a desire to learn and a passion for excellence, and the ability to follow and lead as participants in the worship life of St. Stephen's parish community. Thursday rehearsals begin in early September and run from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. The choir participates in 10:30 AM Sunday Eucharist and sings at special liturgies for Holy Days. Choir members have opportunity to participate in the RSCM summer course.
St. Nicholas Boys' Choir
